ABOUT US

About the center:

Heart in Hands Developmental Center is the first sensory focused center to open in Lincoln, NE.  Offering child care to children regardless of their physical, emotional, or developmental abilities- meeting each child where they are at, to maximize their potential.  Sensory tools can be found throughout the center to support growth and development.  We will be licensed for 15 children (10 early childhood and 5 school age).  We strive to be a resource to families and offer a community of support in all areas of your child’s life including social skill development, after school activities, and advocating for services in your school and community.

The sensory systems:

  • Tactile: Anything that you can touch or feel- it is generally thought to be the most vital sensory system in the body

  • Vestibular: Allows you maintain a feeling of balance with movement

  • Proprioception: Allows you to know where your body is in space

  • Auditory: How you hear or listen to sounds around you

  • Visual: Allows you to see people, places, and things around you, scan the environment with controlled eye movements, and adjust attention to near and far objects

  • Olfactory & gustatory: The senses associated with smell and taste

  • Interoception: The body’s internal organs are responsible for providing individuals with sensory feedback from inside the body based on physical needs

Our Cirriculum:

Our daily activities will include: group play to encourage social interaction. Free play to spark creativity and assist with self-regulation.  Prompting through play for language development to support children with effective communication and social interactions.  Sensory strategies and activities will be incorporated throughout the day to encourage children to develop an interest in their environment as well as affective self-regulation.  A general schedule including meal times, nap times, and outside or gross motor play will be followed to provide children with a predictable routine

Our vision for the future:

As the demand for services increases we anticipate a move to a larger facility that can accommodate children with a variety of needs and abilities.  We envision having small classroom sizes with a 4:1 ratio of children to staff so each child’s individual needs can be adequately met.  We will be enrolling all children-typically developing and children with physical, emotional, cognitive, or developmental disabilities as we will be an integrated child care center.  Services will be added onsite and incorporated into the natural child care environment as the need arises, including but not limited to: occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, and nursing services.  Additional programs/services  to be offered may include: social play groups, on-site community/family trainings on topics of interest, family support groups, and clubs/activities
